Tsonga – Already Entered The Big League
The 10th ranked player in the world is Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Tsonga has shown that he is one of the top players in the world, just two years after surprising the world by making it to the finals of a Grand Slam event as an unranked player. Tsonga has won 14 matches while losing 6 so far in 2010.
He has not yet reached the level of winning a significant amount of tournaments each year, Though Tsonga has proven to be a consistent player already. This year he has still not won a Singles Title and Last year he won 3 tournaments.
In the tennis world, Tsonga is one of the larger, more intimidating men. To produce a powerful, effective serve He uses his size and strength. His forehand and backhand are also very powerful shots. On hard court surfaces this powerful arsenal of shots makes him a formidable foe. In order to become more well rounded he has also improved his skills for clay court matches. He is tough to beat, when he is playing well and His net play is great too.
To make a good showing the 2010 season, Tsonga has all of the tools. Including in the Australian Open, he has reached the semifinals twice so far on the year.
Towards moving up in the tennis rankings, it appears that he is on the right track. Two of his 4 losses came from two of the greatest players of the last decade, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. He also proved to be too much for 2nd ranked Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. For Tsonga to show the tennis world what he is capable of, this could be the year.
