Kim Clijsters: The Comeback Girl in WTA Circuit
In 2010, Kim Clijsters has come out playing great tennis. According to the WTA World Rankings, Clijsters is a former number 1 ranked player in the world. In 2007, a few years after reaching the top of the game Clijsters decided to retire. This decision was made due to injury. In 2009, Clijsters proceeded to come back to the game.
2010 has been even better than 2009 for her even though her comeback in 2009 produced great results. Clijsters has managed to win 15 matches while lost only three so far in 2010. In the process of producing such a great record, Clijsters has won 2 Singles Titles in 2010.
As the top player in women’s tennis, Clijsters looks to be playing at a level comparable to her glory days. She has managed to already beat one of the top players in the league, Venus Williams, in her impressive season. She has also beaten Justine Henin twice this year. Though Henin is ranked only 23rd in the world, she has been one of the better players in 2010.
In the women’s tennis world, Clijsters is one of the best defensive players. To get to nearly every shot, she uses her speed and athleticism. These abilities force opponents to hit more shots, leaving the door open for more errors to be committed. Clijsters can hit to the deep parts of the opponents’ side which is also a powerful stroke in her repo tire.
A successful comeback appears to be on track for Clijsters. She has succeeded in her matches where she has encountered top ranked players but she has not played a large amount of them yet this year.
