Sharapova with Mixed Results in 2010
In the WTA World Rankings, Maria Sharapova is the 14th ranked player in the world. Sharapova has had mixed results in her events in 2010 and is a former number 1 player in the world.
Sharapova has not been quite the same player that she once was after she had a series of problems with her shoulder. Her serve used to be a powerful, useful part of her game. Her serve has not ever been quite the same, with her shoulder injury. The same holds true for other parts of her game.
So far in 2010 Maria Sharapova has only played in three tournaments. She has had varied results in all of these three tournaments. She won a singles title at the WTA Regions Morgan Keegan Championships & the Cellular South Cup. Without losing a single set, she breezed through in this tournament . Her results at the Australian Open however were very different.
In her first match In the Australian Open Sharapova met Maria Kirilenko. Kirilenko was able to take the first set in a tie breaker. With a solid 6-3 set, Sharapova responded. As Kirilenko upset Sharapova in the 3rd set with a score of 4-6, she proved to be too strong that day though.
At this point it is difficult to know what to expect from Maria Sharapova. Her health issues have made her a different player in recent history although she is one of the most talented players in the women’s tennis world. If Sharapova can overcome her injury there is no reason to believe that she wouldn’t rise towards the top of the rankings again.
